Araghchi: Supreme Leader Made Iran’s Enrichment Stance Clear
WANA (May 20) – The Iranian Foreign Minister, Araghchi, referring to the statements of the Supreme Leader of Iran in response to remarks by American officials about Iran’s right to enrichment, said: “Today, the Supreme Leader made the matter completely clear.”
Araghchi, regarding these statements, said: “What we are currently witnessing are completely unreasonable and illogical positions from the Americans and the publicizing of these positions, which was met with our immediate response.”
The Iranian Foreign Minister, referring to the Supreme Leader’s remarks on the matter, added: “The issue of enrichment is not at all a subject open to negotiation from our perspective, and I gave a clear response in recent days. Today as well, the Supreme Leader made the matter entirely clear.”
Today, Ayatollah Khamenei, the Leader of the Islamic Republic, commented on recent indirect negotiations between Iran and the United States, stating: “To say ‘We will not allow Iran to enrich uranium’—is an outrageous overstep. No one is waiting for anyone’s permission. The Islamic Republic has a policy and a path, and it will pursue it. ”
He also, while referring to the history of Iran and U.S. talks, stated that he doesn’t think the negotiations with the U.S. will lead to anything and warned the American officials that they must avoid making nonsense talks during negotiations.
The Foreign Minister also spoke about the timing of the fifth round of Iran-U.S. talks, saying: “A date has been proposed for the negotiations, but we have not yet accepted it.” Araghchi also said we have not set a date for the next round of talks due to the United States’ unreasonable positions yet.
At the end, Araghchi said: “We entered negotiations for the sake of principles and positions that secure the rights of the Iranian people, and we will in no way back down from these rights.”
Earlier, Baghai, in response to a question about the fifth round of negotiations possibly being held in Italy, stating that this news had been published by Western media—said:
“As far as we are concerned, no final decision has been made yet. Proposals regarding the time and place have been put forward by the Omani Foreign Ministry, but as of this moment that I am speaking with you, no definitive time and location have been determined.”
